Join us for this 6-week series as you prepare for your baby's arrival! In each class, we will offer evidence-based information that will give you the confidence to care for yourself and your little one! Led by Christine, the co-owner of Rooted Family Wellness Centre and one of our New Parent Support providers with ample doula experience. This class is in a small group setting and in-person.
Week 1- The Third Trimester
In this first class, you will learn about how to prepare for your baby's arrival and what 'stuff' you need and don't need. Should you make a birth plan? Learn how to advocate for yourself, and what do you really need in your hospital bag. What signs to look out for in early labour and how to nourish your body in the final weeks of your pregnancy.
Week 2- The Birth Process
This week we will talk about what to expect in the different stages of labour. You will learn about when to go to your place of birth. Different positions for labour and optimal pushing. We will discuss possible interventions and the importance of the 'golden hour'.
Week 3 - Comfort Measures for Labour
Learn about many different comfort techniques that can be used at all stages of labour. As well as fostering good communication with your care provider and how a partner can be their best in their support.
Week 4 - The 4th Trimester
What is the 4th trimester? In this class, you will learn all about normal baby behaviour from the newborn stage to 3 months all while focusing on taking care of yourself so you can care for your baby.
Week 5 - Infant Feeding
This week we will be learning about options for feeding your baby. Whether you are planning to breastfeed, pump and bottle feed or bottle feed with formula, we will cover all the basics so you feel better prepared to embark on the feeding journey that is right for you and your baby.
Week 6 - Infant Sleep
What is normal infant sleep? In this class, we will help you learn and understand what normal infant sleep looks like and tips on strategies to use so you can get the rest you need. Common topics: Swaddling? Soothers? Safe Sleep Surfaces?
