How a Chiropractor Can Help You and Your Baby

Rooted Family Wellness Centre offers holistic services, classes, and community to new and expecting families looking to build strong family foundations.

One of those services that we offer is Chiropractic care that is patient-centred, non-invasive, hands-on, and provided by regulated health care professionals who focus on all aspects of the human body.

Let's explore the top ways a chiropractor can help you and your baby!

1. During Pregnancy

Pregnant people often have posture shifts, resulting in more demand on the body's joints and ligaments. The body's hormones and biomechanics change throughout pregnancy, which can put extra strain on the hips and low back as a result.

Our chiropractors can help to relieve:

  • Back pain
  • Symphysis pubis pain (anterior pelvic pain)
  • Neck or joint pain
  • Sciatica
  • Symptoms associated with pregnancy (nausea).
  • Breech baby

We work to reduce and support the effects of sacral and sacroiliac discomfort to improve the biomechanical function of the sacrum and pelvis. As well, implement strengthening exercises both pre-and post-natal. You can find more information on this here.

2. Breech Babies: The Webster Technique

The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and protocol of adjustments and manual therapy to reduce the effects of sacroiliac joint dysfunction, translating to less pain and dysfunction for the pregnant person.

The technique is often recommended for birthing people who have a baby in the breech presentation; however, it is essential to note that this technique does not "flip" the baby. With that being said, there is some evidence that if a mother's pelvis is in an optimal position, it enables the baby to engage in the "head-down" position.

3. Postnatal

Every birth and birthing person's body is different, so our chiropractors implement techniques to help support both you and your baby after birth.

Common conditions that we work to help improve for the birthing person post-birth are:

  • Back & neck pain (carrying a baby can put a lot of stress on your body!)
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weakness or body imbalances
  • Postural adjustments
  • Sciatica pain

We are also the only wellness centre to offer c-section scar release therapy in Ottawa. You can read more about this option here.

4. For Infants

As we work with you and your baby, we have the pleasure of supporting your baby's growth through the various phases of their life.

Common conditions that we work to help improve for babies are:

  • Constipation
  • Ear infections
  • Colic
  • Headaches
  • Breastfeeding Issues (not being able to latch)
  • Torticollis (head tilting to one side)
  • Favouring one side when feeding
  • Poor sleep

This traditional Chinese medicine technique uses targeted acupuncture points to support uterine contractions, promote cervical ripening, and balance hormones like oxytocin. With benefits such as reducing the need for medical induction, promoting relaxation, managing early labor pain, and potentially shortening labour, it’s an excellent natural alternative for those seeking holistic support.
